Description:

(1862-1947) American philosopher, diplomat, and educator, the president of Columbia University and of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Taft's running mate in the 1912 presidential election. Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Good content T.L.S., 2pp. 4to., [n.p.], Feb. 8, 1932, addressed to one Louis Wiley of the New York Times regarding the interwar political situation in Hungary. In part: '...Nicholas Roosevelt is our Minister at Budapest...Count Bethlen was, as you know, Prime Minister for ten years, and is in a very real sense the power behind the throne. Count Karolyki was Minister of Foreign Affairs in Count Bethlen's administration, and is now his successor. Count Teleki was Prime Minister before Bethlen and is, in my judgment, one of the ripest and best informed minds in Europe...Baron Forster has been in Hungarian diplomatic service for years, serving it in various parts of Europe and in this country. He speaks English perfectly and is a charming companion...' Signed in full at the conclusion. Staple holes at top margin, else fine.
