Description:

NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN
(1869 - 1940) British Prime Minister best known for his appeasement foreign policy, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding the Sudetenland region and declaring that he had won 'peace for our time'. The next year, Germany invaded Poland, and Chamberlain led Britain through the first eight months of the conflict before being replaced by Winston Churchill. Good association T.L.S. on his Eaton Square letterhead, 1p. 4to., July 1, 1931 to MAX AITKEN, 1ST BARON BEAVERBROOK (1879-1964), British newspaperman who played a major role in mobilizing industrial resources as Winston Churchill's Minister of Aircraft Production. In part: 'My dear Max...I have been too occupied with this infernal Finance Bill to see you lately, but I was hoping to do so after we have got rid of it, which will be this week. I am, however, going away next week on Tuesday, for a few days, to recuperate; and, as I have to be in Birmingham on Saturday, presiding at the meeting that you know of, this only leaves Monday afternoon. Are you likely to be in town that day?...'. File holes at the left and some glue staining at the very top margin, else fine.
