Description:

NAZIS FIGHT OVER PLUNDER STOLEN FROM JEWS
An incredible item documenting the struggle between German gaus and the federal government over plunder stolen by them from Jews and other victims of the Holocaust. This typed letter, 2pp. 4to., was written by Danzig Gauleiter and President ALBERT FORSTER (1902-1972) who was responsible for the deportation and eventual murder of possibly hundreds of thousands of Poles and Jews. On his official letterhead, Forster writes SS Gruppenfuhrer ULRICH GEIFELT Reich Commissioner for the Strengthening of Germanism, a chief Himmler staff officer who also participated indirectly in "resettlement". Forster advises that confiscated property from "Category 3", meaning Jews, gypsies, communists, etc., which had accumulated to reach a value of 500,000 reichsmarks, should be handed over to the local district (or gau), versus being turned over to the Reichsbank for use by the federal government. Boldly signed by Forster at bottom, and bears two initialed endorsements by Geifelt as well. Sold with a period news photo showing Hitler and Forster examining a field artillery piece at Danzig in 1939. File holes at left margin, else very good. Happily, Forster was executed for his crimes following trial in Poland, while Geifelt escaped the noose and served eight years in prison following trial in Nuremburg.
