Description:

NAZI OCCUPATION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA CONSCRIPTION POSTER 1939
An original poster from the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, 1p. folio (37 x 25 in.), Koniggratz, Aug. 31, 1939, on pink stock in German, titled ‘Inspection' and signed in text by Colonel (and future general) Julius Ringel, Chief Administrator in Koniggratz at the time. In part: ‘…On May 21, 1935, the Fuhrer issued military law. According to this, every German man is obligated to do military service for the Leader and his people. All men born between Sept. 1, 1919 and Dec. 31, 1920, and living in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia are available for screening [for the draft] this year. The screening…will take place on Sept. 7, 1939 at 7 a.m. in the former corps command building in Hradec Kralove…All male Germans...born during the specified period are requested to be washed clean and with cut hair…The necessary paperwork must be submitted: birth certificate…proof of Aryan descent…Passport…evidence of membership in the NSDAP or its divisions… proof of possession of Reichssport, SA, military sports or other badges…driver's license…Any requests for deferral must be made immediately in writing to the Chief Administrator in Koniggratz…'. On March 16, 1939, the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia began in full force and, on August 23, 1939, the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) was signed, along with a secret protocol that left Hitler free to attack Poland. This poster was no doubt published in anticipation of that invasion, which began just one day later. Weakened folds, wear to edges, overall very good condition.
