Description:

NAZI DOCTOR PRESENTATION DESK EAGLE
Presentation desk eagle, similar in style to a Nuremberg eagle, although shown sitting on a globe, standing 11.5 in. tall overall. This presentation piece displays a right facing eagle perched atop a globe, 6.5 in. tall and almost 6.75 in. wide. This eagle device, cast in iron, is painted in a dark brown with what appears to be an underlying bronze anodized finish. It is cast in one piece with the globe and a square presentation cube, engraved with the dedication: 'Dr. Schneider Fur treue Mitarbeit N.S.D.A.B. 12.12.1933' ('Dr. Schneider For loyal cooperative service N.S.D.A.B.'). The N.S.D.A.B., the National Socialist Physicians' League, was headed by the infamous Dr. Leonardo Conti, with Dr. Kurt Blome acting as his deputy. With both being implicated in directing the Action T4 euthanasia program, Conti committed suicide by hanging before being brought to trial, and Blome acquitted by the U.S. government, to secure his help and expertise in the U.S.'s emerging biological warfare programs. He was eventually hired by Sidney Gottlieb to work on the MK-Ultra program. The front of the eagle is near fine, only showing slight wear to the paint in some places, with the reverse showing some scattered chips to the painted coating. The marble base which the eagle/globe/dedication pillar stands atop, bears a brass mobile swastika painted in black at front. This original marble base, a 5 in. x 5 in. x 2.5 in. high, is fashioned from a brown and copper colored marble, in near pristine condition, only showing three small rub marks into the marble at front right, no chips to any corners. Bottom fitted with a worn green felt pad to the bottom, revealing the original washer, screw, and square nut attachment hardware. Very good to fine.
