A fantastic grouping consisting of several Navy issued clothing items belonging to members of a Seabee battalion. Includes: pair of blue trousers with 13 regulation buttons; an undress blue service tunic, named to Joseph T. Goldfine on the ‘Naval Clothing Factory' tag at the neck, accompanied by Goldfine's 13-button trousers; an undress white service tunic, named to John J. Maier at the interior; an undress blue service tunic featuring a sleeve rank insignia patch showing a perched eagle above crossed hammers and three red chevrons, indicating the soldier was a mechanic with the rank of petty officer first class. On the same sleeve is a blue ‘CB' patch revealing the owner of the tunic was a member of a construction ‘Seabee' battalion. The clothing tag at the neck names this tunic yet again to John J. Maier; a dress blue service tunic bearing white piping at the cuffs and along the border of the back flap; silk neckerchief; a dress blue service tunic bearing white piping at the cuffs and along the border of the back flap, with the right breast bearing an Honorable Service Lapel Patch or ‘Ruptured Duck' patch. The left sleeve features a Seabees insignia patch and sleeve rank insignia patch showing a perched eagle above a propeller and one red chevron indicating the soldier was a machinist's mate with the rank of petty officer third class; a blue dress jacket secured closed by four gilt U.S.N. insignia buttons. The right breast bears an Honorable Service Lapel Patch or ‘Ruptured Duck' patch. The left sleeve features a sleeve rank insignia patch showing an embroidered perched eagle above crossed hammers and three red wool chevrons indicating the soldier was a mechanic with the rank of chief petty officer. A ribbon bar is affixed to the right breast, ribbons including: World War I Victory, World War II Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, American Campaign, and Philippine Liberation. A very fine jacket with no stains, fraying, moth holes; a 34 in. khaki belt with a brass Boy Scouts Association buckle; a blue wool shore patrol armband; two blue wool caps; two white caps or ‘dixie cups', one named to ‘Jensen R.'; a U.S.N. white cloth visor cap with a black visor and chinstrap secured by two gilt insignia buttons on either side, and maker marked on the interior by ‘The Commodore' of San Diego, California, complete with intact leather sweatband and a U.S.N. insignia pin affixed to the front; and a blue wool sleeve patch depicting a perched eagle above crossed axes and three red chevrons indicating the rank of chief petty officer for a damage controlman. Accompanying these clothing items is a Seabees postcard and a sleeve patch for the Navcomtelsta station in Washington D.C. All items are contained within a 24 x 15 11 in. deep wooden footlocker. The lid bears a hand-painted image of the Seabees insignia and reading ‘90th Yokosuka-Japan'. The 90th Battalion was commissioned in 1943 and served at Pearl Harbor in 1943, participated in the invasions of Angaur and Peleliu in 1944, and accompanied the Fifth Amphibious Corps and the 95th Battalion to Iwo Jima in 1945. Following the surrender of Japan the 90th was ordered to Yokosuka, Japan. An impressive grouping in very good condition.
