Description:

NATIONAL STATES RIGHTS PARTY SIGNED ARMBAND
Rare, printed cotton cloth armband, clearly used, issued by the National States Rights Party and signed by famous white nationalists ORVAL FAUBUS (1910-1994) and J. B. STONER (1924-2005). The armband measures 4 x 15 in. overall with the ends sewn together to make the band 13.5 in. wide. The design of the violent party consists of a variation of the Confederate battle flag with a circle at the center and a stylized thunderbolt. Stoner has signed in blue ink at the left, Faubus in black ink at the right. Soiling and light wear from use, else very good. The National States' Rights Party was a white supremacist political party founded in 1958 in Knoxville. The party was based on antisemitism, racism and opposition to racial integration with African Americans. Party officials argued for states' rights against the advance of the civil rights movement, and the organization itself established relations with the Ku Klux Klan and Minutemen. Although a white supremacist movement, its messaging was never openly neo-Nazi in the way that its successors in the American Nazi Party were. JESSE B. STONER (1924–2005) was an American lawyer, white supremacist, neo-Nazi, segregationist politician, and domestic terrorist who perpetrated the 1958 bombing of the Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, but was not convicted for the bombing of the church until 1980. He was a founder and the long-time chairman of the National States' Rights Party as well as the publisher of its newsletter, The Thunderbolt. ORVAL FAUBUS (1910-1994) the 36th Governor of Arkansas from 1955 to 1967, as a member of the Democratic Party. In 1957, he refused to comply with a decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1954 case Brown v. Board of Education and ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent black students from attending Little Rock Central High School. This event became known as the Little Rock Crisis. He was elected to six two-year terms as governor.
