Description:

A letter from the Dunker's Club of Mount Dora, Florida, 1p. large 4to., Florida, [n.d. but ca. 1959], apparently sent to Florida citizens, citing an original letter sent to Lake County Sheriff Willis McCall and the thoughts of the Dunker's Club. In part: ‘...The following is an exact copy of a letter written to a duly authorized officer of the law of the Sovereign State of Florida. While the letter itself COULD be the work of a crank...the organization as named IS subversive on, Communist controlled...' The writer goes on to state the belief that the ideas expressed are depraved and could have taken root in countless places. The letter mentioned is dated Aug. 27, 1959, and reads in part: ‘...National Negro Congress...informs you that you this day have been tried in absentia and condemned to death for your crimes against the glorious Negro Race...You will then be tarred and feathered and strung up to the nearest tree. After that you will be drawn and quartered and your stinking carcass thrown to the dogs...Now your time has come and you will not live to see a Negro President in the White House...'. Signed in print by ‘Rufus T. Washington, III Supreme Grand Vicar and Imperial Pontiff Regent'. The Dunker's Club letter continues, in part: ‘...Judging from this n-gger's spelling of condemned and the plural of Negro, one would guess that he has received a typical Washington, D.C. education...We know of some flesh that a self respecting dog wouldn't eat, and we'll wager that two weeks after this edict has been carried out, there will be plenty of it in Florida...millions, billions of whites will be born, live and die before there will ever be a LIVE Negro president in the White House. IF THIS SORT OF THING DOESN'T WAKE SOME OF YOU COMPLACENT, SELFSATISFIED PEOPLE WHO ARE KNOWN IN POLITE SOCIETY AS MODERATES, YOU ARE HOPELESS...GET OFF YOUR WELL UPHOLSTERED FANNY AND JOIN AND WORK WITH ANY ONE OF MANY ORGANIZATIONS THAT IS MAKING POSSIBLE A WHITE FUTURE FOR YOUR CHILDREN...' Mailing folds, very light spotting, else fine.
