THOMAS NAST (1840-1902) American political cartoonist whose works in Harper's Weekly lambasted the Tweed Ring, and made the elephant and donkey recognized as the symbols of the republican and Democratic parties. S.P. 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" b/w, an oval chest, up portrait signed and dated "June 12, 1872" at bottom. Light stain to signature, one corner bumped, else very good. $250-350
