THOMAS NAST (1840 - 1902) American political cartoonist whose works in Harper's Weekly lambasted the Tweed Ring, and made the elephant and donkey recognized as the symbols of the republican and Democratic parties. A fine Nast item, a beautiful original pencil sketch 7" x 9" (sight) of Nast's young son in a head and shoulders image. Matted with a bold signature on a card: "Th. Nast Nov. 20, 1873", along with a vintage note of provenance on a small brown slip reading: "Drawn by my father Th. Nast C. Nast from life, age 5". Fine condition, ready to frame. $600 - 800
