Description:

NAPOLEON BONAPARTE
(1769 - 1821) The "Little Corporal" whose brilliance in the field of battle and as Emperor of France has made him perhaps the most important figure of post-Renaissance Europe. Manuscript L.S. "Np", 1p. 4to., Paris, Jan. 9, 1812, to Henri Clarke, whom he addresses as "le Duc de Feltre", giving orders to the Spanish general Jean Kindelan regarding the formation of a regiment in Rostock, Germany, then under French occupation. Kindelan (1759-1822) was a pro-French officer who rose in the ranks to command Joseph Napoleon's pegiment from February 1809 until Jan. 19, 1812, just ten days after this letter. Two tiny pinholes at bottom left, well clear of text, otherwise very good to fine.
