Description:

Original U.S. M1 combat helmet with rear seam and swivel bales, indicating manufacture during World War II, lightly sand-finished in olive drab on the exterior of the shell, and with a smooth finish of the same shade within. The helmet appears to have been repainted, and the heat stamp is illegible. The shell is fitted with a later chin strap showing M1C paratrooper helmet-style tabs with snaps to secure the liner, although no corresponding snaps are present in the liner. The shell is also fitted with a reversible Mitchell-pattern helmet cover, displaying a "green leaf" camouflage scheme and backed with a "brown cloud" pattern. The "brown cloud" side features a crisp inventory stamp giving a contract number of "8133", indicating manufacture in 1965. The shell is fitted with a World War II-era liner with a vent hole at front, bearing a Firestone maker's mark within the dome, above the numeral "47. The suspension is constructed of khaki webbing, with the name "J. Trudeau" inscribed on one strap in black ink. The brown leather sweat band shows some soiling and flaking, with minor abrasions to the exterior of the liner and some soiling to the helmet cover, else very good. The inclusion of the helmet cover and M1C-stly chin strap indicates refurbishment and issue around the time of the Vietnam War.
