Description:

MORRIS R. JEPPSON Fine content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], replying to his correspondent's questions about the Enola Gay. In part: "...Q. What were the possible targets if Hiroshima had bad weather? It was made clear in briefings before the mission that targets must be visual - no bombing by radar or by guessing through cloud cover. Therefore, three target planes were sent about one hour before the mission. They reported back weather conditions at their prospective targets - I believe Kokura, Nagasaki and Hiroshima...Q2 Did anything unexpected happen during the mission. To my knowledge, no. Colonel Tibbetts...who had flown many combat missions in Europe and Africa, considered this a 'milk run.' Q3 Did you feel safe in the plane using a weapon that had never been tried before? The B29 was familiar, the Little Boy bomb was identical to test bombs we had dropped at Salton Sea. I felt secure. But there was a moment of unreality as I touched the bomb in switching an electrical component (plug) from testing to mode to firing. I was the last person to touch that bomb...". Very fine condition, and with the best possible content .
