1074. DWIGHT L. MOODY (1837-1899) American evangelist, made two tours with Ira D. Sankey and was widely popular. Scarce T.L.S. "D.L. Moody" 1p., 4to., on imprinted stationery of The Northfield Schools in Massachusetts, Fort Worth, April 19, 1895, a solicitation letter from the highly successful fund raiser, in part: "...I enclose to you a statement [not present] of the Northfield Schools...May I ask you careful consideration of this matter? We desire to raise up for these schools, that God has so wonderfully blest, friends who shall become SUSTAINING MEMBERS, by contributing five dollars annually. For this current year a special effort must be made in order to keep this work out of debt. The schools will close in sixty days, and if you could help us in that time, I would be thankful...Any further information about the schools will be gladly given by me or any of the principals...".
