MONMOUTH MILITIA
A lot of two manuscripts D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo. each, signed by soldiers who served with distinction in the First N.J. Regt. "Jersey Line" at Monmouth during the Revolutionary War. The first by Capt. JOHN S. HOLMES (served 1777-1782), Aug. 17, 1796, in part: "...Please furnish the bearer John Reid with goods...". Reid also served briefly with the N.J. Militia. Small burn hole at center, overall good. Along with Capt. BARNS SMOCK (served 1778-1783), June 23, 1810, a receipt for three mares paid by John Holmes "...going to home and all hourse accounts...". Boldly signed. Two pieces.
