Description:

Spectacular 8mm Mauser rifle model 98k with tangent rear sights, the standard service rifle of the German Wehrmacht until the end of World War II. With over 14 million produced, these rifles saw action in every European theater of World War II. This bolt-action rifle, 43.5 in. long, bears the factory code ‘bnz' on the receiver designating the maker as Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Steyr, Austria. The lack of an ‘S' prefix on the code indicates this rifle was produced after 1936. Features a blued finish on the metal pieces, standard for this weapon. Matching serial number ‘6411' on a number of components. No apparent dings or dents to the stock, a fine example with matching parts. Complete with a brown leather gun sling displaying some cracking throughout. Post-war, millions of these rifles were captured by the Soviet Union and re-furbished up until the early 1950s. The Russians would provide these weapons to the Chinese Communist Party during the Korean War and North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. As the Germans left so many of them behind, European nations also seized them and used them as their standard issue infantry rifle, resulting in them finding their way all across Europe.
