MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL BY H. ASTON
Model 1842 single shot percussion pistol H. Aston of Middletown, Connecticut. This .54 caliber smooth bore, muzzle loading pistol is 13.75 in. long with an 8.5 in. round barrel. The barrel is pitted a bit, especially towards the muzzle. It is secured with a wide brass band, and all other furniture is brass as well, including the butt cap, back strap, trigger guard, and side strap. All bear a bronze patina or are lightly oxidized. The bevel-edged lock plate is stamped: r markings. Shows 'US / H. ASTON & CO.' before the hammer, and "MIDDtn / CONN / 1851" behind. Stamped on the barrel at the breech are the proof marks of 'US / WN / P' and the barrel tang bears the date: '1851'. The walnut stock is scuffed a bit on the left side, with a tiny bit of loo to the left of the hammer and at the end of the stock, otherwise very good and much better than usually seen. No cracks evident. Action is very strong and crisp. Bore is dark and pitted. Pistol retains its original swivel type steel ramrod.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
