Description:

MK VI SNIPERS OBSERVER TELESCOPE
Late World War I era MKVI Snipers Observer Telescope made by H.C. Ryland & Son Ltd. This brass two-draw telescope is approx. 11.5 in. closed and 26 in. when fully opened, with original brown leather cover. The brass drawers have a blackened finish, common among later models, and move quite readily. The scope bears the mark ‘TEL SIG MK VI also GS H.C.R. & Son Ltd No. 8430 O S 717 G A' with the British government broad arrow stamp beneath confirming service issue. Complete with the ‘high' lens housed within the side pouch, attached to the telescope by a leather strap, and sliding protective plates on both lenses. The leather strap wraps completely around to serve as a carrying strap. The leather caps and pouch all bear a maroon velvet interior to protect the glass. The cap to the far end of the telescope bears a painted ‘F'. The optics are rather blurry, and the leather shows expected wear and cracking from use, still in good condition considering its age. These scopes were often used by British sniper teams during WWI, WWII, and even into the 1960s and ‘70s. A great piece for any militaria collector.
