Description:

Very scarce early-World War II American 1:72 scale identification model depicting the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M. The model is assembled from eight pieces cut from a 7" x 11" sheet of black non-corrugated cardboard, blind-stamped "U.S. Army and Navy Silhouette Model" at the top edge, and erroneously identified as a "Mitsubishi T-00" on one wing surface. The components are inserted into this sheet for storage, which is in turn housed in its original 7 1/2" x 11 1/2" manila envelope, printed with an image of the model when assembled and instructions for assembly and use: "...The assembled model, when viewed against a light background at 36 feet, will show exact silhouettes of the plane from top, bottom, sides, front, or rear. From any three-quarter view it will simulate the plane sufficiently for recognition purposes..." The envelope also identifies the model as being produced by: "Army Air Forces - Aircraft Identification Section - Wash., D.C." A small piece of one component showing a forward cockpit view is loose but present, with small creases to several other components, else very good.
