Description:

Three quarters-scale miniature of a “Deutsche Jagerschaft” (“German Hunting Society”) cutlass, 5 ½" blade, 8 ¾" overall. The miniature features a sunburst-shaped pommel and a crossguard in the form of two deer legs, with a shell-shaped blade guard. The grip is metal painted black and patterned to resemble stag horn, with a “DJ” emblem in the form of a swastika atop the head of a deer. A green felt washer is fitted above the crossguard, and the blade is engraved on both sides with hunting motifs. The reverse ricasso bears the mark of maker E.&F. Horster of Solingen. The painted grip shows some slight wear, else very good to fine. The piece is housed in a metal scabbard with bright steel throat and drag, with an acorn-shaped frog hook affixed to the former. The center section is pebbled and painted green to simulate leather. The paint shows some wear overall, else very good to fine. These miniatures were frequently purchased by businesses to be distributed as gifts or souvenirs, and this example is of particularly high quality.
