MILLEDGE L. BONHAM
(1813-1890) Confederate brigadier general and later Governor of South Carolina during the war. Fine association, war-date manuscript L.S. as brigadier general, 1p. 4to., ‘Head Quarters 1st Brigade 1st Corps Army of the Potomac', Flint Hill [SC], Aug. 19, 1861, to adjutant general and spy THOMAS JORDAN (1819-1895), Confederate brigadier general who served under Beauregard at First Bull Run, and later under Johnston at Shiloh. In part: ‘…I regret to trouble the Genl Commanding the 1st Corps with the enclosed papers [not present] from the Nos. 1 to 5 inclusive. I respectfully ask that the controversy may be cut short, if the Genl. feels at liberty to do it. I fear that Col. [Richard C. W.] Radford & Dr. Meradith [sic] cannot get along well together…'. Radford (1822-1886) was colonel in the 2nd Virginia Cavalry at the time of this letter, and participated at First Battle of Manassas. Very good condition.
