Description:

MILITARY INTELLIGENCE PHOTOGRAPHS OF DACHAU
A startling collection of 21 color slides (18 original) taken by Combat Intelligence Center (CIC) officer Robert C. Richards of sights he encountered immediately after the liberation of Dachau, Hitler's Kelsteinhaus, Gen. Franz Ritter von Epp's residence, fellow agents, etc. Nine of the slides show scenes at Dachau immediately after its liberation, and include heaps of bodies of murdered prisoners, fumigation of a soldier leaving the camp, and the body of an SS soldier killed by either prisoners or the camp's American liberators. Three slides show the Kelsteinhaus at Berchtesgaden, with an interior of Gen. Franz Ritter von Epp's home. Victor de Guinzbourg, a fellow intelligence agent, liaison officer with the French Foreign Legion and political adviser to Gen. Alexander M. Patch, is shown in several images, two notably in one of Hitler's Mercedes open cars, repurposed as an American military staff car and appropriately so painted. Also included is a slide showing an unfortunate German agent parachuted into France and caught by CIC with transmitters - and no doubt bound for a firing squad. All but three of the slides are original, some in their original wartime metal mounts, others remounted. Many are annotated, presumably by Richards himself. Three slides are marked as duplicates.
