An interesting collection of 15 signed nineteenth and twentieth-century military items such as general orders, signed cards, and signed photographs, including: ALEXANDER CALDWELL, Mexican War hero, A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Leavenworth, Sept. 4, 1841, in part: "...I have little taste for appearing in print..."; Maj. Gen. HUGH L. SCOTT, 7th cavalry Indian fighter, Supt. of West Point, signed card with rank; WILLIAM SEWELL FOSTER, hero of War of 1812, cited for gallantry in defense of Fort Erie and later, the Battle of Okechobee. Fine 6th infantry roll call document, 1p. oblong folio, Aug. 1820, naming such future important alumni as John E. Wool and George Humphries. Boldly signed in full adding rank as Major; three Headquarters of the Army General Orders signed in type by future Civil War general Irwin McDowell, New York, 1858, sending recruits to Florida: GEORGE C. REMEY, rear admiral who, at the beginning of his career, attempted to storm Ft. Monroe and was captured by the Confederacy, then held 13 months until exchanged. Signed calling card imprinted with "Commander in Chief, U.S. Naval Forces"; CHARLES HOWLAND, future brig. genl. serving in the Union Army the Civil War, D.S. May 1845, receiving funds from Capt. William G. Williams to be used on the Buffalo Harbor improvement project, and more. Very good to fine condition, should be viewed.
