Description:

826. NELSON A. MILES (1839-1925) Union major general who fought through the entire Civil War, guarded Jefferson Davis after his capture, and gained greater fame as an Indian fighter and captor of Geronimo. Fine content A.L.S., 5pp. 8vo., Governors Island, June 3, 1911 to his nephew. He mentions the poor treatment of one of his horses, adding: "...A horse is a most sensitive animal, more nervous than any other animal or even man, and can be much vicious or timid...it will require careful treatment to put them back to their proper condition...Do not use either on the road...do not drive them out of a walk...That filly was afraid to go over the stakes..." Very good. $100-150
