Description:

MIKHAIL N. TUKHACHEVSKY
(1893 - 1937) Russian general and politician, chief of staff and Marshal of the Soviet Union, convicted for treason and executed. Very rare A.E.S. on a typed D.S. in Cyrillic, 1p. oblong 8vo., Jan. 11, 1935, to Red Army Air Force Commander YAKOV ALKSNIS (1897-1938), executed during the Terror. The document reads, in part: "...The People's Commissar for Defense has ordered the construction of a series of models of foreign types of aircraft for the conference room and the cabinet. Enclosing a list of the foreign aircraft and photographs I ask you to organize this work as expeditiously as possible...". At left, Tukhachevsky writes a docket in red ink. Additionally signed by Alksnis. Rough left margin lightly affects Tukhachevky's endorsement, light wrinkling, overall very good.
