MIHAI ANTONESCU
MIHAI ANTONESCU (1904 - 1946) Romanian politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister during World War II. Antonescu approved the slaughter of Jews in Bessarabia and Bukovina, and the deportation of the survivors to concentration camps in Transnistria. Found guilty of war crimes. He was executed by a firing squad. Fine association signed book: 'On Adolf Hitler's Birthday - A Feast Day for the German People', being the text of a broadcast Antonescu made from Bucharest on Hitler's birthday, Apr. 20, 1941, 32pp. 4to. with illustrated cover, stained. On the front flyleaf appears a manuscript inscription signed, made to German Gen. HERMANN REINECKE (1888-1973), a general of infantry, head of the General Office of the Armed Forces at OKW and head of the office for the NSFO providing political propaganda to the Wehrmacht. Convicted of war crimes and sentenced to life, released in 1954. The inscription reads: 'Bucharest 9 March 1942 To General Reinecke in proof of my belief in the Fuhrer an in the right of Rumania. M. Antonescu' Overall very good.
