MIDWAY NAMED CHINA-BURMA-INDIA A-2 JACKET
United States Army Air Force brown leather jacket Type A-2 flight jacket with a CBI shoulder patch sewn to the left shoulder. Affixed to the right shoulder is an Air Force patch. Sewn to the right chest is an extra piece of solid leather bearing a painted Air Force insignia and the call sign ‘Tiger'. Painted in blue on the left chest is a depiction of a bomb, with the number ‘70' on it, to represent the 70th Bomb Squadron. The sewn-in label on the collar reads: ‘TYPE A-2 DWG. NO. 30-145 ORDER NO. 42-18245-P' and indicates that it was manufactured by the Star Sportswear Mfg. Co.,
marked as size 42. The jacket bears two flap pockets at the front, closed by snap buttons. Written on the interior at the left is the name of the owner ‘Richard M. Thorburn'. Thorburn was a lieutenant in the 70th Bomb Squadron, which participated in the defense of Midway Island. There is heavy cracking to the leather, more prominently at the shoulders and collar, else very good.
