MICHAEL WITTMANN IS AWARDED A KNIGHTS CROSS
MICHAEL WITTMANN (1914-1944) Waffen-SS tank commander and Knight's Cross awardee credited with the destruction of 138 tanks and 132 anti-tank guns, along with an unknown number of other armored vehicles, making him one of Germany's top scoring panzer aces. During the Battle of Villers-Bocage in command of a single Tiger tank, he destroyed up to 14 tanks and 15 personnel carriers along with two anti-tank guns within the space of 15 minutes. Rare printed document, 4pp. large 4to., [January, 1944), printed announcement of the names, ranks and units of those whom Adolf Hitler has awarded the Knights Cross and the German Cross in Gold. Wittmann's name appears in the first column on the first page. Very good.
