Description:

MEYER LANSKY
(1902 - 1983) Mafia "founding father" and accounting genius, close friend and associate of "Lucky" Luciano, Joe Adonis, "Bugsy" Siegel and Albert Anatasia, involved in nationwide rackets whose profits he laundered through legitimate businesses. He fled to Israel to avoid prosecution in 1970, but was denied citizenship after a long court battle and returned to the U.S. on Nov. 7, 1972 where he was arrested aboard the airplane to face trial. He would be acquitted of all charges in 1974, but spent the interim, and the rest of his life fighting for Israeli citizenship. Good content rare A.L.S. Shalom, Meyer", 3pp. 4to., [Miami], May 9, 1976 to his friend Joseph (Yoskeh) Sheiner, a member of the Israeli Security Agency and Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion's director of security in the 1960s. Sheiner accompanied Lansky on his famous 36 hour flight seeking asylum and secretly tried to obtain him asylum in Paraguay. In part: "...The decision [not to allow his immigration] will not change my interest toward Israel and my fondest feelings towards my friends in Israel...Mr. [Israeli Judge] Shapiro, Boch, Burg and the rest of the politicians that took the attitude that I must leave Israel for the good of Israel can't take solace in their accomplishment; they will have to seek forgiveness in their sinful failure. These religious bastards (Mr. Burg and that bitch of a woman) who gave me the pass-port knew they were committing a cardinal sin when they said you can travel with this pass-port but they didn't lose any time turning me over to the press and police...they better pay more attention to the bearded thieves and the narcotic peddlers that are travelling between Israel and Germany...only one [sin] remains unforgiveable being born a Jew...condemn all Jews because of a few Jews dealing in narcotics because they no doubt bought from an Arab or Christian. We have no apologies to make to Christians...because of a wrong of one Jew...brought about by their denials to let us live like human beings...we also gave them the atomic bomb to blow themselves up with...I'm still kept busy with subpoenas...". File holes at one margin affect a few letters in text, else very good.
