MEDALS, PHOTOS AND SCRAPBOOK OF ALDWIN "SPARKY" ELLIS JR., 101ST AIRBORNE, K.I.A. IN VIETNAM
Extensive collection of medals, photographs and ephemera, all related to the life, service, and death of 101st Airborne Division Cpl. Aldwin A. "Sparky" Ellis, Jr., who died in combat in Vietnam on Oct. 7, 1967, after his unit was ambushed by North Vietnamese machine gunners and snipers. Presented here is a framed display, 21 1/4" x 19 1/4", of his medals, patches and insignia, twenty pieces overall, including two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Vietnamese Military Merit Medal, two Parachutists badges, Expert and Sharpshooter marksmanship badges, and a Combat Infantry Badge, all displayed in a shadow box with a color photo of Ellis. The collection is completed by a scrapbook assembled by Ellis'' family, containing family photos, images of Ellis in uniform, newspaper clippings related to his death and the deaths of other friends and acquaintances in Vietnam, three rubbings of his name from the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, together with a photograph of President Ronald Reagan visiting the memorial, all accompanied by a signed letter from Assistant to the President Edward V. Hickey, Ellis'' Bronze Star citation and Airborne Course diploma, a letter from his company commander reflecting on his death, a sketch of a design for a memorial plaque to be placed at his elementary school, and a wide variety of additional documents and ephemera. An outstanding Vietnam grouping, presenting exhaustive detail about a highly-decorated and regarded soldier.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
