A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., Philadelphia, Dec. 14, 1867 to "Meagan", in part: "...I last spring wrote an urgent letter to Genl. Terry on behalf of Mrs. Smith and the Misses Hayes. I fully advised Genl. Terry of the relationship existing between myself and the Hayeses and the manner of their father's death...I do not know whether Genl. Terry ever got my letter...I do not feel therefore that I could write again...You are at liberty to show Genl. Terry this letter, as explanatory of my position, also to Mr. Huger... ".. A few weak and torn folds carefully reinforced with archival tape, otherwise very good. $400-600
