Description:

MAXIMILIAN RITTER VON POHL'S LUFTWAFFE GENERAL OFFICER'S SUMMER VISOR CAP
An extremely attractive Luftwaffe General Officer's white summer visor cap, named to General der Flieger MAXIMILIAN RITTER VON POHL (1893-1951), a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and the commanding general of Luftwaffe forces in central Italy. The visor cap features a removable cover of white cotton drill with white cotton piping to the edges, displaying a hand-embroidered gold bullion Luftwaffe eagle on a white felt ground. The cover is fitted over the formed white cotton crown, and the internal stiffening wire is absent, but the cap retains its peaked shape with a stiffener and padding at the front. The cap further features a woven black mohair band with gold bullion piping at the top and bottom edges, displaying a large, hand-embroidered bullion cockade and winged wreath on a black wool ground, and with a heavy gold bullion double chin cord with adjustment knots secured over the visor with a gilt steel pebbled button on each side. The visor is black vulkanfiber with a black faux-leather lip and green checked underside. The interior shows a pale gray rayon lining and is fitted with a light gray leather sweatband with ventilation perforations at the forehead. A clear plastic sweat shield is sewn inside the crown, into which is inserted the typed owner's label: ‘General der Flieger Maximilian Ritter von Pohl'. The cap is otherwise unmarked. The cap is in very good to fine condition overall, with slight toning and a few faint dark marks to the white cover, and some black scuffs to the sweatband. Ex. Auktionhaus Andreas Thies, where it sold alongside Pohl's tropical uniform and blue officer's visor, and The Collector's Guild.
