Description:

(1875-1943) Wehrmacht general best known for organizing the Mogilev conference, in which Wehrmacht and SS officers discussed "bandit fighting" tactics, meaning the mass murder of Jews and other real or perceived enemies. Rare A.L.S., 1p. 4to. with integral "Feldpostbrief" cover, [Zittau], April 21, 1941, a letter of condolence written to the family of a soldier killed in action under his command. He signs boldly in black ink at the conclusion, executing his name again on the verso as part of the return address. Shows an approx. 1" dia. hole at lower center, affecting some text in the letter and the first three letters of his surname in the return address on the verso, perforated at the edges where detached from other sheets, else very good.
