Description:

MAURICE RINDSKOPF NAVAL DRESS ACCESSORIES
MAURICE RINDSKOPF (b. 1917) Jewish Naval Academy graduate who was very influential in developing Navy submarine warfare doctrine and tactics. Youngest submarine commander in World War II, commanded USS Drum (SS-228) and was responsible for many successful operations in the Pacific Theatre. An excellent group of relics belonging to Cmdr. Rinsdskopf, including his full-dress epaulettes, black cocked hat, and sword belt from the officer's pre-WW2 service period. The items are housed in the original 18" x 8" x 9" wooden box designed to keep them in excellent condition and proper shape. The box is monogrammed MHR and bears a manufacture stamp for "Hilborn-Hamburger Inc.", a New York City military furnisher. The uniform pieces are stellar: crafted by Hilborn-Hamburger, they bear the rank insignia of a junior officer of the line. The epaulettes show the pre-World War II silver fouled anchor of an officer of the line and the rank emblem of ensign. The sword belt and suspenders are intact, with no torn leather and five stripes of gold trim. The black cocked hat shows little wear to the felt, a dashing 3" x 5" fold of gold cloth, and jaunty gold loops on both ends. A truly wonderful set of military relics from the early career of an important American submarine officer, in very good to fine condition. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
