MARY CASSATT
(1844-1926) American painter and printmaker, exhibited in Paris with Impressionists, renowned for her images of women and children. Rare, fine content A.L.S. ‘Mary Cassatt' 2pp. 12mo., Grasse, [n.d.], on her imprinted ‘Villa Angeletto' personal correspondence card to Jeanne Pontillon, the daughter Edma Morisot, Impressionist Berthe Morisot's older sister and the wife of Edouard Manet's brother, Eugene Manet. Cassatt arranges a lunch with her niece. Cassatt leased the Belle-Epoque mansion ‘Villa Angeletto' in the South of France around 1910, and the villa became the locus of many gatherings of Cassatt and her contemporaries such as Degas, Renoir and of course the Morisots. Jeanne Pontillon is perhaps best remembered as the subject of her aunt Berthe Morisot's acclaimed painting ‘Portrait of Jeanne Pontillon' (1894). Fine condition.
