(1782 - 1862) Eighth President of the United States, Secretary of State and a close ally of Andrew Jackson. An uncommon partly-printed D.S. "M Van Buren" as President, 1p. folio on vellum, Washington, Nov. 14, 1840 being a scallop-top ship's paper issued to the "Ship Ororimbo of New Bedford David H. Bartlett master or commander of the burthen of 588 33/95 tons...mounted with no guns navigated with 32 men..." Countersigned by JOHN FORSYTH as Secretary of State. With very nice intact paper seal of the United States affixed at bottom left. Usual folds, else fine condition.
