Description:

MARTIN VAN BUREN
A.L.S. "M. Van Buren, 1p. 4to., Lindenwald, Sept. 27, [18]45 accomplished at the end of a letter by Henry Dodge [?] that apparently was protesting the removal from office of one Maj. Waldron. Van Buren responds, in part: "...I am happy in having the opportunity presented to me to express my strong conviction... that injustice was done to Maj Waldron by his removal from office... Although... sensible of the soundness of his political principles and the ardor of his devotion to the democratic cause it was necessarily the opinion of the Sec. of the Treasury, Solicitor of the Land office that this case at present to us was one which required a removal... ". Worthy of further research. Matted and framed with an engraving of van Buren. Usual folds, overall fine condition.
