Description:

MARTIN BORMANN
(1900 - 1945?) Head of the Nazi Party Chancellery and private secretary to Adolf Hitler, by the end of World War II Bormann had become second only to Hitler himself in terms of real political power. Excellent association T.L.S. on his 'Reichsleiter' letterhead, 1p. 4to., Fuhrer Headquarters, December 7, 1941, a letter on behalf of Adolf Hitler regarding the testing of war equipment sent to noted industrialist ALFRED VON BOHLEN UND HALBACH, whose company Friedrich Krupp AG (through the use of slave labor) produced almost everything for the German war machine - from U-boats, battleships, howitzers, trains, railway guns, machine guns, cars, tanks, and much more. In full: 'In response to your letter, I informed the Fuhrer that maybe at the beginning of December the first test of the Grossgerats [German military jargon for vehicles, tanks, artillery, aircraft, etc.] will start. The Fuhrer insists on being present at this test as the test scheduled for 3rd December was cancelled. The Fuhrer hopes, if possible, to attend the next test so I am asking you to inform me at the earliest when the next date is known. Dr. Hanssen informs me that this may be at the end of January.' Signed at the conclusion. One of Krupp's secretaries adds a date stamp at upper-right, docketing at the opposing corner. Two file holes with loss to the left edge thereat, else very good. Sold with a translation. This testing likely relates to the prototypes of the Tiger I tank, which saw service in Africa and the Soviet Union starting in 1942, though this is impossible to fully confirm given the sheer numbers of equipment produced by the company.
