Description:

(1900 - 1945) One of Hitler's closest confidants and his personal secretary after 1943, he remained in the bunker with Hitler until his leader's death, then vanished. Fine association D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Munich, April 16, 1934, to NSDAP national treasurer Franz Xaver Schwarz (1875-1947). Bormann transmits a directive from NSDAP Deputy Fuhrer Rudolf Hess for Ernst Schulte-Strathaus to be accepted as a party member, and signs boldly at the conclusion in black pencil. Shows file holes and small chips to the left edge, with staple holes at the top edge and small folds overall, else very good. Schulte-Strathaus would serve as a director of art and cultural affairs on Hess' staff from 1934 until 1941, when he was arrested and imprisoned at Sachsenhausen on suspicion of assisting Hess in planning his ill-fated flight to England in pursuit of a peace agreement. He was released in 1943 and continued working as a researcher and scholar for the remainder of his life.
