Description:

(1902 - 1989) Wehrmacht general and adjutant to Adolf Hitler. Hitler much liked and trusted Bormann, although he and his brother Martin disliked each other intensely. Fine association T.L.S. on his N.S.D.A.P. Secretary to the Fuhrer letterhead, 1p. large 4to., Berlin, Dec. 13, 1939 to ALFRED ROSENBERG (1893-1946), the Nazi leader considered the ideologist of Nazism, and Reichsminister of the eastern territories, later executed at Nuremberg. In part: "...the founding of a university in Posen is now being considered. The Deputy to the Fuhrer has not yet been asked for an opinion in this matter. In order to avoid a delay...I would be grateful if you would inform me...of your principle opinion on the plan for founding a university of this kind...[and] how this institution should be organized..." Paper clip stain at upper left, file holes in margin, else fine condition. The original University of Poznan (Posen) was closed by the Germans in 1939, and reopened 1941 as "Reichsuniversität Posen", a "Grenzlanduniversität" aligned with the German occupation forces' ideology. Its faculty included SS-Hauptsturmführer Reinhard Wittram and SS-Untersturmführer Ernst Petersen, who was a professor of the Department of Prehistory for one year, and anatomist Hermann Voss. It ceased operations in 1944.
