Description:

(1900 - 1945?) Head of the Nazi Party Chancellery and private secretary to Adolf Hitler, by the end of World War II Bormann had become second only to Hitler himself in terms of real political power.
BORMANN DISCUSSES THE 'NIGHT OF THE LONG KNIVES' WITH THE NAZI PARTY COURT Historically important T.L.S. on early NSDAP letterhead, 1p. 4to., Munich, Sept. 14, 1934, a letter to the Supreme Party Court about the 1934 Knight of the Long Knives, specifically requesting the attention of Chief Justice WALTER BUCH (1883-1949), Bormann's father-in-law and a central organizer of the purge. Writing as the Chief of Staff under Rudolf Hess, in response to the Court's request for a 'direct response' from the Deputy Fuhrer's office about the event, Bormann redirects the question to Heinrich Himmler and to the Reichstag, writing: '...I am enclosing a letter from the management of the Reichstag...regarding the expulsion of members of parliament in connection with the events of June 30th...the Reichsfuhrer-SS is the only party office that has a precise overview of which party comrades appear incriminated in connection with the Rohm revolt...' Of course, Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler urged Hitler to order the killings and his SS forces were largely responsible for carrying out the murders. Buch's Supreme Party Court was responsible for settling intra-party problems and disputes, conducting investigations, rendering judgments and taking disciplinary actions against Party members. Buch condoned the killings of the SA, and was present at Rohm's arrest at Hitler's request, and his courts were very active in the subsequent extensive purge of SA personnel throughout the Reich. Two file holes, some damp stains, else fine condition. An extremely rare and desirable document, highlighting the cooperation between many Nazi organizations in purging the SA.
