A superb lot of material including a wartime photo album containing a total of over 160 original photographs of varying sizes, most taken by the album owner and some images apparently taken from the bodies of dead Japanese soldiers, along with a Japanese soldier's "good luck flag, captured and signed by the album owner. The album, 9" x 11" with maroon cloth covers, was owned by a member of the 4th Marine Division, and their patch is affixed to the first page. The soldier and his shipmates are shown en route to battle, and within the album appear no less than 12 photos of soldiers holding captured Japanese flags (possibly ours as well). Other dramatic images show dead Japanese scattered across battlefields, captured Japanese tanks, American tanks, destroyed villages, bunkers and aircraft, refugees, and R&R in Hawaii. In the rear of the album are 23 photos of Japanese civilians and scenery, along with an image of a flier and a navy sailor. We believe that the Marine owner of this album obtained these images from his either dead or captured Japanese enemies. Also present is a 33 1/2" x 28" cotton Japanese soldier's "good luck" flag, captured and signed by one "K R HARRISON", a paper fan with patriotic mottos, and a souvenir "Nippon Times" surrender kerchief. Overall very good.
