Description: MARINE CORPS TANK COMMANDER'S KOREAN WAR GROUPING
Expansive grouping from an unknown U.S. Marine Corps tank commander during the Korean War, including two extensive war diaries containing hundreds of pages of hand-written text, spanning the period from September 1950 to October 1951. Far too detailed to adequately summarize, the diaries most critically include detailed accounts of platoon activities, notably including: '1 Sept. 1950...0930 - Enemy break thru on three fronts. 'A' Co. Tanks standing by to move out...10 Dec. 1950 in position Rm. Forward of Majong-dong - TK33 expanded 25 Rds 9 MM on enemy 2000 yds North...22 Feb. 50 ordered to 1st BN at 1300 moved in position near hill 166...prep for morning push...'. Much more detail written in military jargon. The journals also include sixteen handwritten pages of frag orders, filled with great military content; handwritten Korean words and phrases with English translations; clear communications between the English-speaking soldier and Korean natives ('YOU READ THIS? AMERICAN KOREAN HOUSE'); and an undated 'pre Dog day' speech, reading: 'Cool- heads down & fight like hell. Not going to lose any men unnecessarily, give infantry more support than they ever had in their life.' Clearly worn, back covers absent, else very good. SOLD WITH: three clearly war-date South Korean flags, all hand-painted and almost certainly 'bring backs', one of which bears a hand-inked inscription at bottom: '143-14-3405'. 'SOLD WITH: an A.L.S from a Lt. Col. Milne of the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, authorizing one Lt. G.G. Sweet to take war trophies; an Allied 'Safe Conduct' pass; three color photographs; two tank-shaped pins; a pair of USMC lapel pins; three insignia patches; five service ribbons, two of which bear one service star; and various other pieces of ephemera. Very good condition, and certainly worthy of further research.
