(1831 - 1922) Confederate brigadier general wounded at Shiloh, returning to fight at Chickamauga and Atlanta. He later compiled the Official Records of the Civil War. War-date A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Atlanta, Apr. 21, 1864 to Col. J. B. Sale enclosing a "...corrected list of officers employed in the Provost Marshall's Dept. in accordance with your instructions. It will be seen that but one of the Commissioned Officers is employed in the Provost Marshall's Office directly, the others being in the Main Guard & under orders of the Provost Marshall General of the Army of Tenn...". Light marginal wear, laid into another sheet on verso, else very good condition.
