Description:

(MANSON FAMILY) CHARLES ‘TEX' WATSON
CHARLES 'TEX' WATSON (b. 1945) American murderer and former member of the Charles Manson 'Family'. Watson has been considered Manson's right hand man on the nights of the Tate/LaBianca murders as well as at Spahn Ranch and Barker Ranch where the Manson Family resided. Watson was found guilty of the murders of seven people and sentenced to life in 1971. Important D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., the actual fingerprint card from Watson's 1970 arrest for the Tate-LaBianca murders, taken at the time of his extradition to California. The 8 x 8 in. official FBI fingerprint card bears twenty prints and Watson's signature 'Charles Denton Watson', taken at the Sheriff's Office in McKinney, Texas. The card is also signed and dated Sep. 3, 1970 by two L.A.P.D. detectives assigned to the Sharon Tate murder case who had been sent to McKinney to receive Watson for transport back to Los Angeles. One of the detectives signing is Sgt. Michael J. McGann, the lead detective on Tate case. File holes close to the bottom margin, otherwise near fine condition. With a colorized mugshot of Watson. Watson had fled to McKinney where it is said relatives in law enforcement helped stall his extradition for nine months. The very prints on this card were used to inextricably tie Watson to the murder scene. Fine condition. Upon arriving in California, Watson stopped talking and eating, losing 55 pounds, and began regressing to a catatonic state. He was admitted to Atascadero State Hospital for a 90-day evaluation period to determine if he was fit to stand trial. He stayed there until February 1971, when he was deemed able to stand trial. On October 12, 1971, Watson was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. One week later, the same jury took only two and a half hours to determine that he was sane. On October 21, 1971, he was sentenced to death. With that penalty banned in California, Watson converted to Christianity and became a prison minister, yet since has been denied parole 18 times.
