Description:

Project Alberta, also known as Project A, was a section of the Manhattan Project which assisted in delivering the first nuclear weapons to be used in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Its mission was to design a bomb shape for delivery by air, modify B-29s to carry the bombs (Project Silverplate), and prepare facilities, assemble, and load the weapons upon the aircraft at Tinian. Excellent lot of eight items signed by members of PROJECT ALBERTA. Includes: copy of the Aug. 12, 1945 citation given to group members, signed by MORRIS JEPPSON, test officer who also flew on Enola Gay; WALTER GOODMAN, an observer on The Great Artiste; FREDERICK ASHWORTH, weaponeer on Bocks Car, JOHN L. TUCKER, X-Unit Section, DONALD MASTICK, and FREDERICK ZIMMERLI; commemorative covers signed by physicist LUIS W. ALVAREZ, scientist BARNEY O'KEEFE, and chief "Fat Man" pit team leader PHILIP MORRISON, along with a card also signed by Morrison (who witnessed all three pre-1946 atomic blasts); a 5 x 7 in. photo signed by physicist HAROLD AGNEW and Great Artiste instrument officer LAWRENCE H. JOHNSTON (who also witnessed all three blasts); and another signed 5 x 7 in. photo of LAWRENCE H. JOHNSTON on Tinian to which he adds the places and dates of the atomic blasts he witnessed. ALSO: a 5 x 7 in. photo signed by photographer BERLYN BRIXNER showing him with the ultra high-speed cameras he used to record the first atomic explosion at Alamogordo. Nine pieces, near fine.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
