MAN ORDERS THAT HIS SLAVES BE LIBERATED
Fine content manuscript D.S., 3pp. legal folio, Madison, Ky., Dec. 1, 1832, the last will and testament of slaveowner Martin Green. Green instructs that his slaves "Humphrey" serve his wife until 1836 and "Henderson" until 1840. "Sophia" is likewise to serve until 1838, after which all three slaves are to be freed "according to the laws of the state". Sophia's three children, named in the document, as well as any other children she may bear, are to be freed with their mother, ands slave Elijah is to be freed immediately upon Green's demise. Second page bears a clean fold split, else very good. An unusual manumission of sorts.
