Description:

"MAIL DAMAGED BY FIRE AND DYNAMITE"
One of the stranger pieces we've encountered, this lot comprises a partial postal cover addressed to the "California Conserving Co." in San Francisco, cancelled Seattle, Oct. 10, 1923 with the bottom left corner lost due to having been burnt during a stick-up of the train in which it was carried. Attached by a period paper clip is a small slip printed: "This mail damaged by fire and dynamite in hold-up of Ashland & Gerber Train No. 13 at Siskiyou, Oregon, October 11, 1923". Along with an official post office envelope forwarding the charred cover to the original recipient. No further explanation of condition seems necessary! Two pieces.
