Description:

1523. GUSTAV MAHLER (1860 - 1911) Austrian composer and conductor who wrote symphonies that absorbed into their texture and form the tradition of German song in music. Rare, fine content A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], in German to Heinrich, in part: "...I've been cleaned out, down to my last farthing, and whether I'll make it through the summer with no pay, only the gods know at this point. Composition just costs so much money! By the way, you're right: Obstacles also have something to do with it! Whether I will come and look you up this summer, I don't know yet!...I am very eager to see what the next season will bring. Rudolf and I are posted next to each other on all the placard pillars...". Boldly penned. A weakened central fold possibly bears a bit of splitting at extreme edge, else very good. Framed in double-glass along with a portrait. Not examined out of frame. $1,500 - 2,000
