Description:

MAGDA GOEBBELS
(1901 - 1945) Wife of Nazi Germany's Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. A prominent member of the Nazi Party, she was a close ally, companion and political supporter of Adolf Hitler. As Berlin was being overrun by the Red Army at the end of World War II in Europe, she and her husband fatally poisoned their six children before they committed suicide. Rare, fine association A.L.S. on her personal letterhead, 4pp. large 8vo., Berlin, Nov. 19, 1937 to ILSE HESS (1900-1995), wife of Rudolf Hess, Deputy Fuhrer to Adolf Hitler. Largely untranslated, but apparently an informal, chatty letter send congratulations upon the birth of Wolf Rudiger Hess, the only child of Ilse and Rudolf Hess, who had been born the previous day. In part (very loosely translated): '...My dear happy Frau Hess! How I fancied myself this morning when I read the news in the newspaper...about this boy!...and for the smallest Hess by best and dearest wishes - to you all!...The nice thing is, it's over and done with soon...' She mentions her own daughter Hilde, whom she would murder a few years later, adding: '...as soon as mine is out, I will send you a little [?]...' Goebbels speaks of her own pregnancy, as she carried Hedwig Johanna...also murdered by her mother at the age of six. One light horizontal fold, else very good. Worthy of a complete translation.
